I'm a research scientist in the MIT Laboratory for Information & Decision Systems, working with Prof. Sertac Karaman.  

Before joining MIT, I was a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Tech (2013-2015) working with Frank DellaertI got my Ph.D. from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2012. During my Ph.D. I was also a visiting researcher at the University of California Santa Barbara (2011) and at the University of Zaragoza (2010).
I got my MS degree in Mechatronic Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (2008) and a MS degree in Automation Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2008)

My research interests include nonlinear estimation, numerical and distributed optimization, and probabilistic inference applied to sensing, perception, and decision-making in single and multi robot systems.    



October 20, 2016 - The paper "Towards 4D Crop Analysis in Precision Agriculture: Estimating Plant Height and Crown Radius over Time via Expectation-Maximization" (in collaboration with J. Dong, G.C. Rains, T. Coolong, and F. Dellaert) was featured on the second edition of the Springer Handbook of Robotics.

October 11, 2016 - our preprint on visual attention for resource-constrained visual-inertial navigation is available on ArXiv! (link)

September 10, 2016 - my interview was featured on the 2016 issue of MIT LIDS/ALL magazine (How robust algorithms can change the world)

July 1, 2016 - our paper on sparse sensing has been accepted at IROS 2016.

June 19, 2016 - our position/survey paper on SLAM has been released on Arxiv!

February 7, 2016 - I'll serve as Associate Editor for IROS 2016.

January 15, 2016 - ICRA paper accepted!

September 20, 2015 - I'll be at IROS 2015 to present the work "Lagrangian Duality in 3D SLAM: Verification Techniques and Optimal Solutions", joint work with David Rosen, John Leonard, Giuseppe Calafiore and Frank Dellaert.

July 17, 2015 - the workshop "The problem of mobile sensors: setting future goals and indicators of progress for SLAM", that I co-organized with Cesar Cadena, Yasir Latif, Henry Carrillo, John Leonard, Jose Neira and Ian Reid, was a success! Excellent speakers, great participation, and interesting discussion - you can find pictures, comments, and posts about the future of SLAM by joining the Google+ SLAM community.

July 15, 2015 - the paper "IMU Preintegration on Manifold for Efficient Visual-Inertial Maximum-a-Posteriori Estimation", written in collaboration with Christian Forster and Davide Scaramuzza, is finalist for the best paper award at RSS 2015!

July 4, 2015 - Our paper on structural symmetries has been accepted at BMVC 2015

June 29, 2015 - 2 papers accepted at IROS 2015

May 25, 2015 -  the paper "IMU Preintegration on Manifold for Efficient Visual-Inertial Maximum-a-Posteriori Estimation ", written in collaboration with Christian Forster  and Davide Scaramuzza , has been accepted for publication at RSS 2015

April 12, 2015 - I gave two seminars at UPenn, invited by Kostas Daniilidis. These days in Philadelphia were very interesting and I really loved the warm welcome and the interesting conversations with the brilliant researchers of the GRASP LAB.

March 20, 2015 - I gave two seminars at MIT (you can download the slides of my talk here). I had a very warm welcome and I loved spending few days in Boston, talking with some of the most talented researchers in the world.
